The wolves get their big day! Four red wolf pups born at the WNC Nature Center on May 9 have been introduced into the main exhibit area and are viewable by the public for the first time, center director Chris Gentile announced today.

Summer is made for children to get outside. The sunny weather, the rich colors, the beautiful landscapes — nature is in a riot of life.

Children who visit the WNC Nature Center...

In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s been hot these past few days! What tactics have you employed to combat the heat? Maybe you string up a hammock in the shade and take an afternoon nap, hide out in the cool indoors, take a dip in the swimming pool, or enjoy a bowl of ice cream. Believe it or not, the animals at the Nature Center take the same routes in dealing with the heat!

I mean, besides ice cream. How about a nice peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Or spaghetti and meatballs? Apples?

Congratulations to Mayo and Phoenix, proud new parents of four Red Wolf puppies!

The puppies were born May 9, 2012 and announced to the public on May 31 at the annual fundraiser event Mountain Safari. There are two males and two females, all normal and healthy. In fact, this unusually large litter for a new mom like Mayo is checking out better than average!
