WNC Nature Center’s annual

Festival of Knowledge

Saturday March 10, 2012 from 10:00am – 2:00pm

 

“This is a statewide invitation to all schools (public, private and home school families) to participate in this year’s Festival of Knowledge.  Posters, displays, and three-dimensional creations will be judged for information, creativity, and workmanship. Dimension of these exhibits must be at least three feet in length and two feet in height.  They must be able to stand on their own or have physical support from the back – please no hanging or leaning items on the walls.  Tripods and easels are recommended as support systems. You may bring in your project starting Friday March 9th until 4:00pm or starting at 8:00am the following day, March 10th.  We ask all participants to have their displays ready for judging by 10:00am Saturday. Please bring table clothes, tape, markers, and any other display materials you may need to set up your creations.” 

  The three categories you may enter your display in are as follows:

1. “Build a Bug” (an actual insect species or create an imaginary one)

2. “Cultural History (Native American Indian or colonial lifestyles)”

3. “Natural History (NC animal or plant species)”.

Contact the Nature Center to pre-register by calling (828) 298-5600, ext 5.  Deadline for registration is March 7. This is a FREE event for participants.

 

Judging:

Judging will consist of three elements:

1.      Project content

Judges will look at content, proper grammar, spelling, and .

2.  Workmanship

Creative use of materials, design of display, and effectiveness to the subject.

2.      Interview with the Judge

Each participant will interview with the judge with questions about your display, the information, and about your experience with the project.  Interviews will last about 10-minutes per contestant.
