Volunteer Opportunities

You can make a difference. It takes the efforts of our volunteers to make the Nature Center a place called 'Home' to our wildlife and a place of Adventure & Discovery to our visitors.

Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer. The Nature Center has many exciting and rewarding volunteer positions. You will have the unique opportunity to be a part of our ever-expanding and dynamic educational facility. Volunteers will also be eligible for the following benefits: * Gift shop discounts * Field trips * Special workshops *Incentive awards * Nature Center Newsletter.

We know the Nature Center has a volunteer position that is just right for you. Below is a description of each of our positions.

Volunteer Job Descriptions:

  • Docent - Assist the education department in providing programs to visitors.
  • Gardening - Assist in maintaining native plant gardens and landscape plantings.
  • Roving Naturalist - Roams the grounds and answers questions about the animals and the exhibits.
  • Special Events - Assist with events such as Howl-O-Ween, Bug Day, Farm Fun Day, and many more!
  • Nature Lab Attendant - Assist visitors in exploring the Nature Lab by interpreting animals and objects on display.
  • Exhibits - Assist the exhibit department in design and construction of exhibits.
  • Sales Desk - Assist staff at front desk and in the Possum's Pouch gift shop.
  • Wild Animal Care - Assist animal department in the maintenance of the habitat and food preparation for the wild animals. **NOTE: There is no direct contact with the wild animals ***
  • Farm Animal Care - Assist animal department in the care and feeding of the domestic animals as well as watching the petting area and answering questions for visitors about the farm animals.
  • Intern - There are possibilities with the animal department, exhibit department, and the farm. There is a time commitment required. * No Stipend Awarded.
