Overnight Delight
A Nocturnal Adventure At The WNC Nature Center
September 3 & 4, 2010
6:00 pm Friday arrival
programming begins 7:00pm Friday and ends 8:30am Saturday
“A sleepover event for families”
Join the WNC Nature Center’s education department for an evening of fun, food, and folly as we camp all night under the stars. Arrive at 6:00pm to set up your tent by the log cabin and get settled in. The programs begin at 7:00pm with an introduction to nocturnal animals. We will discover animal adaptations, see some predators up close, and learn how animals adapt to their surroundings. As we tour the center, we will trek out to the wolf compound to investigate wolf ecology, learn to howl like a wolf, and uncover a few interesting facts about these wild canids. We shall also explore how animals use their sense of smell, hearing, and sight to adapt to the darkness of night. We will then head back to our discovery room to create enrichment treats for animals that you can take home with you. Our night will conclude with snacks (fruit and drink) and story telling around our log cabin fire.
In the morning, participants will be treated to a continental breakfast at 7:30 am followed by packing up our sleeping gear, tents, and belongings. Our final gathering will be to collect our hand-made craft projects and say farewell to one another as we leave the Nature Center with a spring in our step and a twinkle in our eyes.
Please call to make your required reservations immediately as this event will fill quickly. Cost is $35.00 per child and $25.00 per adult. Reservations are confirmed with receipt of payment made to the WNC Nature Center. Bring a tent, sleeping bags, water bottles, camp chairs, insect repellent, and bathroom necessities. You may stay in your tent or may elect to sleep in our Main Exhibit building. Call the education department at 298-5600, extensions 305 for more information. We hope you will join us for a howling good time!
